I've been doodling shark-planes and jelly-clouds for quite a while and this week I finally had chance to produce the artwork. This pattern was inspired by the fantastic cloud wallpaper from Toy Story. I'm a fan of most Pixar work but that wallpaper is just beautiful, Google it if you don't know what I'm talking about.

This piece is my entry for the 2011 Cheltenham Illustration Awards. The theme of the competition was 'Tree Time Tales'. My initial concept for the illustration revolved around the relationship between a carpenter and his materials. As the project developed, and my sketchbook filled, I fell in love with this bizarre character, neither man, chair nor tree. I was heavily influenced by Russian Constructivist posters, as the typography makes clear, and the half tone textures I used for the background really gives it that vintage feel. I'm pretty happy about how this one turned out.

As the title suggests this is the last of my final last words series. This illustration was based on the last words of the early twentieth century Broadway impresario Florenz Ziegfeld. I wanted to play around with hand made type for this one. I tried to reflect the context of each word and the manner I imagined they were delivered in through the design. I'm not sure if I succeeded but it was fun nonetheless. Getting the colour combination was also quite a challenge because I really didn't want to use red, it has crept into a lot of my recent work.
